Ron Caviani was born on March 12, 1931 in Iron Mountain, Michigan. He received his early musical training at the age of three and one half years at the hands of his uncle Ernest Caviani. He began playing bass with the High School orchestra and with various jazz bands while in high school, and wrote arrangements for the ensembles in which he played. Graduated High School in Iron Mountain, spent three years with the Marines stationed in Quantico, VA for the duration and played with the post band and various other ensembles during that time. Was married and began a family during that time. Ron and his wife have four children: Ron, Christine, Sandra and Susan.
After the stint in the Marines, Ron began his college education, and graduated with a degree in Music Education from Northern Michigan University. Subsequently he attended the University of Notre Dame as a graduate assistant, and graduated from Notre Dame with a Master of Music degree in Composition. Ron taught Orchestra and beginning strings in the Niles, MI public schools for three years and then took a position at Northern Michigan University where he taught Theory, Composition, Jazz History, Orchestration and was responsible for the Jazz Band and the Electronic Music Studio. Ron moved to California in 1978 where he taught at the University of the Pacific, Conservatory of Music for 16 years retiring from teaching in 1994.
Ron was the conductor of the Central Valley Youth Orchestra, played bass with the Stockton Symphony, taught Theory, Composition and Orchestration and Jazz Scoring while at Pacific. He also plays jazz piano. Currently, Ron sings with the Dickenson County Community Chorus and the Immaculate Conception Church Choir. Ron writes for both of those groups.
Ron studied composition with: H.Owen Reed; James Niblock; Father Carl Hager, C.S.C.; George Wilson; Hal Wright and had a few sessions with Luciano Berio while on sabbatical in Italy in 1983. Ron resides in Iron mountain MI these days and write music when the muse strikes.

Ron Caviani passed away in January, 2004.
