Music listing
According to The Minneapolis Star Tribune, Laura Cavianiís debut CD "Dreamlife" was a word, outstanding. Marian McPartland found it ...sparkling and inventive. The Jazz Times called her second release, "As One", stunningly fresh. Her Holiday album, "Angels We Haven Heard", was considered this seasonís finest new jazz CD of holiday music by the St. Paul Pioneer Press. As pianist, Caviani has performed and recorded with vocalist Karrin Allyson and has toured with her group throughout the U.S. and Japan. As composer, she has been commissioned by both the Kansas City Symphony and the Central Wisconsin Symphony. Her big band arrangements have been recorded by a number of ensembles, including St. Paul Cedar Avenue Big Band, The Bird of Paradise Orchestra, (Ann Arbor MI) and The Kirkwood Community Jazz Ensemble. (Cedar Rapids, IA) Caviani holds a Masters of Music in Improvisation from The University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. In 1997, she received a grant from the Atlantic Center for the Arts to study with pianist and composer JoAnne Brackeen. That same year, she was recognized by her alma mater, Lawrence University, with the Nathan M. Pusey Distinguished Achievement Award. The following year, she was one of four American musicians selected to study in Japan at the Akiyoshidai International Art Village. She has made Minneapolis her home, where she performs regularly with JazzMN and The Pete Whitman Xtet, both on the new Artegra label.
