Jim Radloff

Music listing
Jim began ‘playing piano’ at the age of 3 by mimicking radio commercials, and plays primarily by ear. During college and graduate school he played in saloons, supper clubs and piano bars. Since 1989 he has concentrated on tunes of the Ragtime, Classic Jazz, Vaudeville, WWI& II, Prohibition, and Great Depression eras.

His 3-CD series, Sentimental Journey, Old Fashioned Christmas, and Take Me Out To The Ball Game captures the spirit of our country, and the music of those historical times.

Jim’s a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, served in the Peace Corps ’63-’65 and earned a Masters in Social Work. During a 34-year professional career he worked with all age groups, disabilities, mental and physical issues, but always played piano solo or in bands.

He started the Eau Claire Ragtime Festival (2000-2014) which donated $110,000 to Eau Claire, WI non-profits, and Chippewa Valley Ragtime Society in 2001

Jim received the 2009 Scott Joplin International Ragtime Foundation Award for “outstanding achievement in American Ragtime”. He was a finalist at the MN State Fair Talent Competition and a semifinalist at the World Championship Old Time Piano Playing Contest (Peoria, IL).

On Leap Day 2012 a snow blower accident resulted in the loss of 3 middle fingers of his right hand. He discovered within days ways to play with seven fingers. Completing a pledge at the 2012 Scott Joplin Ragtime Festival, he composed and published the “Seven-Finger Rag” to add a ‘positive note’ to the tragedy.

He’s performed at the Eau Claire, Lake Superior, Scott Joplin, West Coast, Blind Boone, San Antonio, Cape Cod and Eagles and Ivories Ragtime Festivals, publicly in all 50 states, all 72 WI counties, all 22 border-state counties, Washington, D.C., Belize, British Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Panama, and Yukon Territory.
