||Timepieces for Brass Quintet
After having composed seven jazz-oriented songs in 1997, the composer combined and developed them into a five movement, major composition featuring the vast potentials of the brass quintet. It was written to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Wisconsin Brass Quintet of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The 61 page score calls for varied trumpets, flugel horns, euphonium, and a large variety of mutes for the usual brass quintet combination including the tuba. Each player is challenged technically and stylistically. The 20 minutes of music includes ballads, beguines, love songs, dixieland choruses, mixed-metric dances, perpetual mazes,
Latin salsa, and is meant to celebrate. “Timepiece” has received numerous performances both in the U.S. and in Europe.
