||"Trooperís Elegy" was written by Matthew C. Lamb in 2004. This work for Concert Band was commissioned by the Spring Valley (WI) High School Band, Gary Smith, Director. It is dedicated to Charles Lamb and Vietnam Veterans everywhere.
Commissioned by the Spring Valley High School Band and director Gary Smith in 2004. The composition attempts to portray the feelings that soldiers may deal with during a time of conflict. Military bugle calls, the national hymn "God of our Fathers", and "Garry Owen" (the unofficial march of Custerís cavalry regiment) are utilized throughout the piece.
The piece can be done by most high school bands and would be a great challenge for a middle school band. There are many interesting percussion parts, as well as solos for bass clarinet and trumpet. There are also several vocalizations for the band.
"Trooperís Elegy" received a standing ovation at its premiere in May 2004. The piece is humbly dedicated to the composerís father Charles Lamb and Vietnam veterans everywhere.
