"The initial concept was to bring together different trios, because I think my favorite setting is the Bill Evans-style acoustic piano trio," Houghton explains. "Then the idea was to add people from there."
With Steve houghton anchoring every tune from his drum kit, the album includes three basic trios: one featuring guitarist Larry Koonse and bassist Tom Warrington; another with vibist Emil Richards and Warrington; and a third with pianist Billy Childs and bassist Marc johnson. When the pieces called for fleshing out from the front line, saxophonist Rob Lockhart, trumpeter Tim Hagans and trombonist Andy Martin were called in. Consequently, the album flows through a multiplicity of moods and textures while the essential "feel" is eminating from Houghtonís drums.
