Denise Pyles, is a pastoral musician and composer who has been sharing her musicial gifts in various spiritual applications since 1979. Recently she completed production of "Creation of Love" , a collection of original music for ritual prayer and worship.|
"Creation of Love" is the third collection that Denise has professionally recorded and produced. Other recorded accomplishments include "Weaver God" which was recognized with a Liturgical Arts Award, "Song for Mater Admirabilis", and a collaborative CD for womenís prayer and ritual sponsored by IPJC of Seattle, WA.
Long before her music reaches the recording studio, Denise is writing and performing her compositions for liturgical purposes, religious conferences and other spiritual assemblies. She has performed her works in concert and has been commissioned to write music to promote assembly singing for various religious communities, including the Religious of the Sacred Heart (US Province) and the Catholic Educatorís Conference (British Columbia,Canada).
Although a skilled acoustical guitarist, Denise is expanding her repertoire to include the study of classical guitar. Whether singing, writing, playing or conducting music, Denise believes in "full, conscious and active participation" in liturgy and private prayer. Her never-ending enthusiasm for liturgical and community singing are best expressed in her trademark phrases: "it is okay to sing from the neck down" and "sing what you pray; pray what you sing".
Deniseís devotion to a spiritual life goes beyond music. Originally from Louisville, KY, she now lives in Seattle working as a Pastoral Assistant for Liturgy and Contempory Gospel Choir Director for St. Judeís Parish in Redmond, WA. In her spare time she hikes the mountains of the Northwest, goes snow-shoeing, enjoys photography and plays golf.
