Tobie L.Wilkinson, Lecturer of Music, teaches applied percussion,
percussion techniques, percussion ensemble, and is the Assistant
Director of the Warhawk Marching Band at the University of
Wisconsin-Whitewater. Mr. Wilkinson holds the Bachelor of Music and the
Bachelor of Music Education from Central Michigan University. In 2000,
he earned the Master of Music from Rice University in Houston, TX.
Mr. Wilkinson has performed as Principal Timpanist with the Wisconsin
Chamber Orchestra, the West Shore Symphony, the Madison Symphony, and
Orchestra X in Houston, TX. He was also Principal Percussionist with the
Greater Lansing Symphony prior to his appointment at UW-Whitewater. In
the summer of 2000, Mr. Wilkinson performed with the Pacific Music
Festival Orchestra under the direction of renowned conductors Michael
Tilson Thomas and Charles Dutoit. Active as a chamber musician, Mr.
Wilkinson has performed works such as Bartok’s Sonata for Two Pianos and
Percussion, Stravinsky’s The Soldiers Tale, and frequently performs
chamber music with faculty colleages at UW-Whitewater. He has also
performed new music for saxophone with Claude Delangle of the Paris
Conservatory.
Mr. Wilkinson, dedicated to the percussion ensemble as an integral
medium for percussion education, was a member of the acclaimed Robert
Hohner Percussion Ensemble (RHPE) which has eight recordings as well as
national and international performances to its credit. The RHPE was a
featured performer at venues such as the Percussive Arts Society
International Convention, the MENC Convention, and the Midwest Band and
Orchestra Convention.
Mr. Wilkinson remains active as a private teacher, adjudicator, and
clinician. His professional memberships include the Percussive Arts
Society, the American Federation of Musicians, and the Music Educators
National Conference.
