Kristen Shiner McGuire, Asociate Professor in Professional Practice, is Coordinator of Percussion Studies at Nazareth College of Rochester, where she has taught since 1984. She is an active performer and composer as well, and has several pieces published: Juniper for solo marimba; Declaration, Song, and Dance for solo timpani; Mixolydia (beginning mallet solo) and Blue Lagoon (beginning mallet duet with blues improvisation). Ms. Shiner McGuire’s other compositions include Three Pieces for Bass Clarinet and Marimba, Colors of Earth and Sea and Celestial Welcome Her drumset quartet,’Dis Is How Her Songo, is available from ReallyGoodMusic.com. Ms. Shiner McGuire is a member of the Rita Collective and the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. A former member of the Board of Directors for the Percussive Arts Society, Ms. Shiner McGuire has also served as Secretary and New York Chapter President for PAS. She has published articles in Percussive Notes, The Instrumentalist, and School Music News, and has her own column in the latter. Ms. Shiner McGuire has recorded with the Maelstrom Percussion Ensemble, Jon Seiger and The All Stars, the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, the Rita Collective and more. Her solo album Kristen Sings and Plays and Rings, may be found on CD Baby and iTunes. Kristen is a clinician for Mike Balter Mallets, Sabian Cymbals, and Regal Tip Calato sticks.
