Steve Wiest

Steve Wiest is the director of jazz studies and trombone at UW-Whitewater. He teaches many courses in the jazz area as well as directing the Jazz Symposium and Jazz Ensemble. Steve is also responsible for bringing a number of guest artists in the area of jazz and trombone each year to UWW. Before coming to Whitewater, Steve was the featured trombonist and arranger with the Maynard Ferguson Band. Since his tenure at UWW, he has also been the featured trombonist with the Doc Severinsen and Frank Mantooth Big Bands recording "Swingin the Blues" with Doc on Azika records in 2000.

Recently, Steve reunited with Maynard for Mr. Ferguson’s final performance at the Blue Note in New York and then recorded a CD with Ferguson which will be released early 2007. Steve conducts All-State jazz groups and clinics throughout the US on a regular basis. Professor Wiest is also a member of the Whitewater Faculty Brass Quintet.

Mr. Wiest has recently released his own solo recording project to wide critical acclaim with the Arabesque Jazz label: "Excalibur: The Steve Wiest Big Band" The CD can be purchased at the Arabesque website: www.arabesquerecordings.com
