Guitarist/ Composer/ Arranger, Shawn Salmon, is a 2000 graduate of Eastern Illinois Universityís Jazz Studies program. While at EIU Shawn studied with guitarist John McLean and performed with the award winning Eastern Illinois Jazz Ensemble. In 2002 Shawn completed his Masters Degree in Jazz Composition at DePaul University in Chicago. At DePaul Shawn studied guitar with Bob Palmieri and composition and arranging with Thomas Matta. Over the years Shawn has performed with such artists as Karrin Allyson, Lionel Loueke, Buddy DeFranco, Ed Shaughnessy, Chris Potter, and Bob Brookmeyer. |
While living in Chicago Shawn taught guitar, jazz history, and theory at Harold Washington College and Kennedy-King College. Shawn has been published in DownBeat Magazine and The Arizona Music Trader .
Shawn graduated from Ball State University in 2011 with a Doctorate of Arts in Music. At Ball State Shawn was the graduate assistant for jazz studies and jazz guitar. He directed the second Ball State Jazz Ensemble as well as teaching classes in jazz theory and history. In 2008 Shawn performed at the Interlocken Guitar Festival and Workshop.
Along with composing and arranging Shawn is active leading and performing with his own jazz trio (www.shawnsalmon.com). In 2009 Shawn joined the roster of Really Good Music, LCC.ís outstanding line-up of composers and arrangers.
Shawn lives in in Indiana with his wife Elaina and son Eamon.
