Doug Rasmussen

Doug Rasmussen was raised in the Mississippi river town of La Crosse WI and graduated with a degree in Saxophone Performance from the University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire. He spent the 80ís in Seattle, Washington and while there was a member of the Fred Radke Orchestra. While in Seattle he played with Gladys Knight and the Pips, the Four Tops, the Temptations and many of the swing era greats including Steve Allen, Helen Forest, Frankie Lane and Frank Sinatra Jr.

He was a founding member of the Jazz Police Big Band with whom he recorded two CDís and wrote many of the charts they played and recorded. Since moving to the Minneapolis/St. Paul area he has written Big Band charts for many local high schools, most recently completing commissions for Minnetonka High, Eagan High and Rosemount High.

In 2011 he was commissioned by MMEA to write the Minnesota State Honors Jazz Band Audition Etude. In 2008 he formed the ACME Jazz Company (www.acmejazzcompany.com) a big band that continues to be committed to playing original music.
