DR. TERRY L. APPLEBAUM
I have enjoyed a multifaceted career as a percussionist, professor of music and arts entrepreneurship, dean, provost, not-for-profit executive and presenter. |
I held the positions of Associate Dean and Professor of Percussion in the School of Music at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. I joined the Northwestern faculty at the age of 22 and held teaching and leadership roles there for twenty-six years.
For many years, I performed as an adjunct percussionist with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, under master conductors, including Georg Solti, Carlo Maria Giulini and James Levine. As drum set player for the CSO, I played under Arthur Fiedler and Erich Kunzel. I have also played drum set for musical theatre productions, floorshows and hundreds of commercial engagements. My passion for contemporary music led me to premier new works for solo percussionist and percussion ensemble. I also performed on concerts and recordings as a member of the Contemporary Chamber Players of the University of Chicago.
My educational background includes a Diploma from the Institute for Educational Management at Harvard University, Master of Business Administration in Finance from Loyola University Chicago, Doctor of Musical Arts in Percussion Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Iowa, and Master of Music and Bachelor of Music degrees in Music Education from Northwestern University.
Throughout my career I have been privileged to study and work with the best‹world-class performers, superb faculty, terrific students. My ongoing mission is to build on those rich experiences, and give something back by mentoring on a level not otherwise possible.
