This full 10 minute work for SATB with narrator, flute and drum is based on a warm, poetic homage by August Derleth to his life-long inspiration, Henry David Thoreau. This 1996 composition follows the design of the poetry which is sung, enhanced by quotations by Thoreau recited by the narrator. During these recitations, accompanied by chorus, the flute (Thoreau’s instrument) and drum flow freely as timbral interludes. Printed. |
