"Oh Wisconsin, Land of My Dreams" is Wisconsin’s Official State Ballad. This arrangement for Orchestra and Voice is by Douglas Hill. The lyrics and music are by Shari A. Sarazin & Erma Barrett. In 2001, Wisconsin Governor Scott McCallum and the Wisconsin State Legislature named this tune as the State’s official ballad.
In the late 1920’s a farmgirl from Juneau County (WI), Erma Howland Barrett, took out her journal and wrote a beautiful poem about Wisconsin. In October 1993 Shari Sarazin took her Grandmother’s heartfelt words and put them to music.
This arrangement for voice and orchestra by Douglas Hill was the result of a generous grant from the Sauk County Arts, Humanities and Historical Preservation Committee awarded in 2002. His interest in American Folk music and popular song combined with his life -long participation in symphonic orchestras is immediately apparent in this elaborate enhancement of Ms Sarazin’s delightful setting of her Grandmother’s wonder filled words. |
