||"The Flight of Icarus" was written in 1996 by Dr. Carl Seale. This work was the winner of the 1996 Texas Orchestra Directors Association Composition Contest.
The Flight of Icarus is a nine-minute piece for full orchestra with considerable work for all sections. The work won the composition prize of the Texas Orchestra Directors Composition Contest in 1996. It is energetic and has a strong rhythmic drive. By liberal use of accidentals the piece moves the tonal center frequently. It is a good piece with which to show off a strong high school orchestra in concert or at contest.
