"West of Williston" was written by Mark Powers in 2005. This is a duet for Parade Drums with train whistle and suspended cymbal. The composer notes that this was written aboard the historic Empire Builder train around the border of Montana and North Dakota. The use of the train whistle, bell of the suspended cymbal and a shouted "all aboard" evokes memories of that trip. Your young percussionists will enjoy the sounds of train starting, traveling and then slowing down. Nice use of dynamics and accents. |
