"Orchids" is a work for solo Marimba by Jonathan Leahy. This will work on a four and a third octave marimba. Repetitive passages abound, but meter changes keep the performer on his/her toes. Starts in 6/8 then goes to 7/8; then 4/8; 3/8;back to 7/8; then 6/8; then 3/4; and ends in the 7/8 to 6/8 alternation. Mandolin rolls are required. Great recital piece. Excellent learning tool for meter changes.
"Orchids" - written in 2006 - is an introduction to 4-mallet techniques that will engage the performer and his/her listeners with gentle dynamics and dark harmonies. Good for intermediate students. |
