||"Norland Suite" was written in 1978 by Jerry Lehmeier. Mvt. 1 - Moderato; Mvt. 2 - Larghetto; Mvt. 3 - Moderato. In the key of Eb major with a short section at the end in F major.
Norland Suite is a descriptive piece, which is reminiscent of the towering mountains, deep fjords and Viking ships of Scandinavia. Richard J. Lindner Director of Bands at Winona State College (University) from 1967-1968, 1970-1976 commissioned Norland Suite to commemorate the local Scandinavian heritage. The Winona State Concert Band premiered the work on May 17, 1974. Because the piece was not immediately published, the work was not again performed again until the Summer of 2005 by the Eau Claire Municipal Band under the direction of Craig Lehmeier, Jerry’s son. Samuel Backman, a senior at Independence High School reconstructed parts, a full score and the condensed score. The recording provided is the actual premier performance by Richard J. Lindner and the Winona State Concert Band.
