Description "Greens/Blues/Reds" for Solo Horn was written by Douglas Hill in 2005. The "Green" refers to Joy; "Blues" refers to Sorrow; "Reds" refers to Aggravation. "Greens/Blues/Reds" is a work that was inspired by the influential writings of Aldo Leopold, the author of "A Sand County Almanac", and the significant initiatives of Gaylord Nelson, the "Father of Earth Day". (The actual act of composition began on July 3, 2005, the coincidental date of Senator Nelson’s passing) The work begins by celebrating the remarkable beauty and spendor of our "green" planet. It then moves on to express the remorse, the "blues", felt regarding the apparent and reckless neglect and destructive actions so frequently demonstrated by those with the power to conserve and improve upon the needs of our precious environment. Aggravation ("reds") and anger follows as one feels desperate to save our planet from those who have chosen to destroy it through their greed, before it is too late.
