"Oh Wisconsin, Land of My Dreams" is Wisconsin’s Official State Ballad. This arrangement for SATB Chorus is by Douglas Hill. The lyrics and music are by Shari A. Sarazin & Erma Barrett. In 2001, Wisconsin Governor Scott McCallum and the Wisconsin State Legislature named this tune as the State’s official ballad.
In the late 1920’s a farmgirl from Juneau County (WI), Erma Howland Barrett, took out her journal and wrote a beautiful poem about Wisconsin. In October 1993 Shari Sarazin took her Grandmother’s heartfelt words and put them to music.
This arrangement for Chorus by Douglas Hill was the result of a generous grant from the Sauk County Arts, Humanities and Historical Preservation Committee awarded in 2002. His interest in American Folk music and popular song combined with his life -long participation in symphonic orchestras is immediately apparent in this elaborate enhancement of Ms Sarazin’s delightful setting of her Grandmother’s wonder filled words.
