"Pentastic Dance" was written in 2004 for String Orchestra by Sarah E. Miller. This work has some meter changes to challenge your performers. It begins in 5/8 time; goes to 4/4; back to 5/8; then 2/4; 3/4; etc. Counting is paramount here. Exciting work. "Pentastic Dances" is a piece for junior high orchestra in pentuple meter that is based on two Icelandic folk songs. It was commissioned by MacPhail Center for Music and premiered at Orchestra Hall (MSP) by the MacPhail Suzuki Orchestra and a visiting orchestra from Iceland. |
