||"O’Dark O’Clock in the Morning" was written in 2007 by Ray Ames. This is a work for young Jazz Ensemble. The Composer writes: "It is a slow swing style ballad. Most jazz is performed after dark. We have our rehearsals in the morning before it gets light. Rhythms are simple, and ranges are very moderate. It can be handled by second year players having their first jazz experience. Rhythm section parts are easy, and optional written solos are provided. The solo section can be repeated as needed for improvisation. This would be a good piece to introduce brushes to the drummer, but sticks can be used throughout."
