Description "Flex Time" was written in 2009 by Russell Scarbrough. It was commissioned by the Hilton High School Jazz Ensemble, Jared Streiff, Director and the Fairport High School Jazz Ensemble, Bill Tiberio, Director. This chart will challenge your group as it is almost entirely in 7/4 time. The composer writes: Flex Time: Straight eighths, reminiscent of Pat Metheny in its moody lyricism and rich harmonies. Written expressly to feature the lower voices as soloists, there is space for bass (could be acoustic or electric) and baritone sax, and the trombone section gets an interesting soli. The piece is in 7/4, except for the exuberant bari solo which is in 7/8. Flex Time allows an expressive band to really tell a story. 5-4-4-4 Optional vibes and 5th trumpet parts included.
