||"Tumbao or Not Tumbao?" was written in 2010 by Mark DeSimone. Lots of Reed Doubles and 5 trumpets. Latin style. Exciting music.
"Tumbao Or Not Tumbao," a catchy and cheeky samba with woodwind doubles, a la Soul Bossa Nova.
This catchy Latin tune features a tongue-in-cheek melody that alternates between Samba and Salsa grooves (hence the title). Saxophone doubles include Soprano & Flute, Piccolo, Clarinets and Bass Clarinet. Each section gets a feature, and the baritone sax gets a blustery Latin solo. Another solo section is an extended blues form with a swing feel, and thatís open for several players to improvise on. Itís a challenging tune for the band, and a definite crowd-pleaser!
