||"And We Listened" was written by Bob Freedman for the Maynard Ferguson band. Solos for Alto and Trumpet. Lead Trpt. needs a high G. Great chart! The composer writes: "In 1957 I subbed in the saxophone section of Maynard Fergusonís band at Storyville in Boston. After the engagement Maynard kindly agreed to let me write something for him. I asked what criteria he used to judge a piece. He said he didnít like having one soloist followed by another without some sort of ensemble work in between and that he liked a piece to build steadily throughout. "And We Listened" was constructed to follow Maynardís wishes and he recorded it for his album, A message From Newport. Unison alto saxophone and trumpet start the melody, mid-range unison trumpets state the bridge and the full ensemble provides a strong finish for the opening chorus. The form is a somewhat unusual 8, 8, 8, 12. The out-chorus is quite demanding of the brass section, with the top note being G above high C for the lead trumpet."
