||"Mastodon" was written by Bill Simenson in 2015. Straight eighths style chart. Medium tempo. Solos for Trombone and Guitar. Very inventive section work. Chords on intro in the Mingus fashion. Interesting dissonance in chordal structure behind solos. This could be Concert Hall jazz. The composers writes: "Mastodon (from “Big Alpaca” by the Bill Simenson Orchestra)
“Mastodon,” written in 2015 is my bass clef guilty pleasure. While there’s a little something for the high end of the band near the finish, “Mastodon” gives the bass clef denizens of the band a chance to shine. Solos are for trombone and guitar.
Instrumentation: Soprano Sax, Alto Sax, Tenor Sax 1&2, Baritone Sax, Trumpet 1-4, Trombone 1-3, Bass Trombone, Guitar, Piano, Bass, Drums." Also available as a PDF.
